Visit analytics (self-hosted)

booknest records page views itself using an anonymous identifier cookie (`bn_visitor`, server-readable only, expires after 1 year). That identifier is one-way hashed before storage — we never store the raw value.

We only store: the page path viewed, an estimated device type (mobile/tablet/desktop), your browser language, and a country code (inferred from network infrastructure or a rough estimate — not precise geolocation). We do not store your IP address or raw User-Agent string.

If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, booknest does not record your visit at all.

Google Analytics (only if enabled)

If the site owner configures it, some deployments may also load Google Analytics (gtag.js) for additional aggregate metrics. That part is operated by Google under Google’s own privacy policy.

Signing in with Google

If you choose to sign in, booknest uses Google Identity Services and stores: your email, display name, and avatar image from the Google profile you agree to share. We never receive or store your Google password.

This data is used to: show reviews you’ve written, save your favorite books, and sync your reading progress across devices. Your session is kept in a separate, server-readable-only cookie, fully independent from the admin session.

Content you post

Reviews or comments you write are shown publicly with your display name. A review is only hidden for a genuine policy violation (never for a low rating), and we log who hid it, when, and why.

What we don't do

We do not sell personal data, do not use it for targeted advertising, and do not share it with third parties beyond the services listed above (Google, when enabled).

You can request to see or delete your personal data (account, reviews, reading progress) by contacting hello@booknest.codes.

This policy may be updated as features change; the latest version always lives at this address.
